For us, making Pinot noir is truly a labour of love. All of our Pinot is produced exclusively with grapes grwon by family owned and operated Hugh & Mary Vineyard. The hote summer days and cool nights make this vineyard prime Pinot growing country. The vines range from 10 to 21 years of age and are a mix of clone 667 and 115. The grapes were hand-picked on a beautiful weekend in October by close friends and family.
Filtering has always been a de facto winemaking style at Niche Wine Company. We love the clarity and sparkle it brings to our wines and the winemaker sleeps better at night knowing his wines are nice and stable. That being said, there are two sides to every coin. Filtration by its very nature, removes things from the wine (the good and the bad). We believe this unfiltered Pinot noir is therefore the truest expression of the place it was grown and the manner in which is was cared for. The final verdict? We’ll let you be the judge.
This Pinot noir was made in the vineyard and once harvested was made with minimal intervention and maximum farming effort. The unfiltered nature of this special release gives this pinot a beautiful, soft texture and an explosive flavour profile. Hints of Sandalwood and vanilla on the nose and flavours of redcurrant and strawberry on the palate make this the kind of wine that really gets along with everyone.
