We typically harvest Gewurztraminer before all the other grapes so you might say that these grapes get a little VIP treatment. The 2015 Gewurztraminer from Hugh & Mary Vineyard was hand-picked over four days and left to sit on the skins for twelve to twenty-four hours before pressing.
Hugh & Mary Vineyard grew some amazing fruit in 2015 and the Gewürztraminer was no exception. These beautiful, pink-coloured clusters were pressed in our half-ton basket press. The wine was then fermented in stainless steel tanks and bottled in early July (this two-man army always run little behind schedule).
Crisp lime and lychee on the nose gives this Gewurtz an intoxicating aroma but it’s the peach and the passion fruit on the palette that give this off dry white wine a fresh and clean finish. Pairs well with crab, curry, chicken, and bacon. Yes, bacon.
